  • 200g all-purpose flour
  • 50g tapioca flour/starch
  • 100g granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 100ml warm coconut milk
  • 1/2 tsp instant yeast
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • Oil for frying

👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. 1 Dissolve the yeast in the warm coconut milk, then let it sit for 10 minutes until foamy
  2. 2 Mix together the all-purpose flour, tapioca flour, sugar, and salt
  3. 3 Add the egg and vanilla extract, then stir to combine
  4. 4 Pour in the yeast-coconut milk mixture and knead until smooth and no longer sticky
  5. 5 Cover the dough and let it rest for 1 hour, or until doubled in size
  6. 6 Punch down the dough, take a small portion, and roll it into a ball
  7. 7 Poke a hole in the center with your finger — shaping it like a mini donut
  8. 8 Heat the oil over medium heat
  9. 9 Fry the ali agrem until puffed up and golden brown
  10. 10 Flip occasionally so they cook evenly
  11. 11 Remove from the oil and drain

💡 Tips

• The coconut milk should be warm (not hot) so the yeast activates properly

• Don't flip too often while frying so they keep their nice shape

• Best enjoyed in the afternoon with coffee or sweet tea
