👩🍳 Instructions
- 1 Mix the yogurt, chopped garlic, lemon juice, olive oil, oregano, paprika powder, cumin, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Stir until well combined into a thick marinade.
- 2 Coat the chicken breast with the marinade, massaging it in so the flavors soak through. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, ideally overnight for a more savory result.
- 3 Heat a grill pan or nonstick skillet with a little oil. Grill the chicken over medium heat until fully cooked and browned on the surface, about 6-8 minutes per side.
- 4 Remove the chicken, let it rest briefly, then slice it thinly lengthwise just like traditional gyros.
- 5 Make the garlic yogurt sauce: combine the plain yogurt, grated garlic, lemon juice, and chopped dill. Stir well and adjust the seasoning with a little salt.
- 6 Warm the pita bread briefly in a dry skillet so it becomes soft and pliable.
- 7 Lay out the pita bread, add the sliced grilled chicken, cucumber, tomato, red onion, and lettuce. Drizzle with garlic yogurt sauce to taste.
- 8 Roll the pita bread up tightly and serve immediately while warm.
💡 Tips
• Marinating the chicken overnight in the fridge will make the flavor soak in much more deeply and the meat more tender.
• Use a ridged grill pan so the chicken looks like it was cooked on an authentic rotisserie.
• Full-fat plain yogurt makes a creamier sauce compared to low-fat yogurt.
• If you like it extra fresh, squeeze some lemon juice directly onto the chicken before rolling it up.
