Pisang nugget (banana nuggets) is a hit snack that many people are crazy about right now because of its texture — crispy on the outside but soft and sweet on the inside. It's a great homemade business idea because the ingredients are cheap, easy to find, and the process can be prepped the night before. Add chocolate, cheese, or sprinkle toppings to make it even more tempting and boost the selling price.

  • 8 ripe kepok or raja bananas
  • 150 grams medium-protein all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 150 ml liquid milk
  • 1 chicken egg
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 200 grams breadcrumbs
  • 500 ml cooking oil
  • to taste toppings of choice (melted chocolate, grated cheese, sweetened condensed milk, chocolate sprinkles)

👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. 1 Steam the bananas for 10 minutes until soft, then mash with a fork or blender until smooth like a paste.
  2. 2 Mix the mashed bananas with the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, sugar, milk, egg, and salt. Stir well until the batter is thick and evenly combined.
  3. 3 Pour the batter into a square baking pan lined with plastic wrap or greased with oil, and spread it out to a thickness of about 1.5 cm (about 1/2 inch).
  4. 4 Steam the batter for 20-25 minutes until cooked through and firm. Remove and let it cool completely; it's best to refrigerate it for at least 1 hour so it's easier to cut.
  5. 5 Once cooled and firm, cut the mixture into small squares according to your preference.
  6. 6 Roll each piece in breadcrumbs until evenly coated on all sides.
  7. 7 Heat oil over medium heat and fry the banana nuggets until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes. Remove and drain.
  8. 8 Serve warm with melted chocolate, grated cheese, or sweetened condensed milk as toppings, to taste. For selling, you can pack them in plastic cups with the topping on top.

💡 Tips

• Choose bananas that are really ripe so the sweetness is at its best and you won't need much added sugar.

• The steamed batter must be chilled in the fridge first so it firms up and can be cut cleanly without falling apart.

• For selling, the raw banana nuggets (already coated in breadcrumbs) can be stored in the freezer and fried only when an order comes in, so they stay fresh and crispy.

• Fry over medium heat only so the inside cooks through completely without burning the outside.
