  • 6 slices white bread (torn into pieces)
  • 500ml milk
  • 3 eggs
  • beaten
  • 100g granulated sugar
  • 50g melted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla paste
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 50g raisins or chocolate chips (optional)
  • Topping: vanilla sauce or sweetened condensed milk

👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. 1 Heat the milk, sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon until the sugar dissolves — do not let it boil
  2. 2 Once it's warm, pour a little into the beaten eggs while stirring (tempering), then combine everything together
  3. 3 Add the torn bread pieces and mash with your hands until the bread breaks apart and soaks up the liquid
  4. 4 Add the melted butter and raisins, mix well
  5. 5 Pour into a square baking pan that has been greased with butter and lightly dusted with flour
  6. 6 Steam for 30-40 minutes over medium heat (or bake in the oven at 350°F/180°C for 25 minutes)
  7. 7 Let cool, cut into triangles, and serve with vanilla sauce or sweetened condensed milk

💡 Tips

• Use bread that's slightly dry (you can leave it out to air-dry briefly) so it absorbs the liquid better

• Don't overcook it, as it can turn tough

• Great enjoyed warm or cold with a scoop of vanilla ice cream
