Es buah (Indonesian fresh fruit cocktail) is the simplest thirst-quenching drink, yet it's highly sought after when breaking the fast. It's a mix of fresh fruit chunks like watermelon, cantaloupe, papaya, apple, grapes, and nata de coco, drizzled with sugar syrup, sweetened condensed milk, and shaved ice. It tastes sweet and refreshing, with a crisp texture from the ice and fruit. Es buah can be made with various twists, such as adding jelly, cincau (grass jelly), or basil seeds. This drink is super easy to make at home with whatever ingredients you have on hand. During Ramadan, es buah vendors line the streets because everyone wants to quench their thirst with a healthy, refreshing drink. Besides being perfect for breaking the fast, es buah is also great for family gatherings or get-togethers. Use fruits that are in season so they're cheaper and naturally sweeter. Es buah is best served in a big glass with a straw and a long spoon.

👩🍳 Instructions
- 1 Boil the sugar, water, and pandan leaves until the sugar dissolves, then let cool (this makes the sugar syrup). Prepare a large bowl and mix all the fruit chunks, nata de coco, and basil seeds together. To assemble in serving glasses: add the fruit mixture, drizzle with sugar syrup, add shaved ice or ice cubes, then pour sweetened condensed milk on top. Stir before drinking. Serve immediately.
💡 Tips
• Use fruits that don't brown too quickly (soak apple in salted water first)
• You can add jelly or cincau (grass jelly)
• Shaved ice tastes better than ice cubes.
