Round tofu balls stuffed with sautéed vegetables and fried until crispy — a favorite school snack, and this homemade version is so much healthier! The tofu stays soft on the inside with a savory vegetable filling, while the flour coating turns wonderfully crunchy. One recipe makes 12 balls — enough for 3 days of packed lunches.

👩🍳 Instructions
- 1 Mash the tofu with a fork or blend it briefly.
- 2 Squeeze the tofu in a clean cloth to remove excess water — this is important so the balls don't turn out mushy.
- 3 Mix the tofu with the carrot, green onion, egg, all-purpose flour, and cornstarch.
- 4 Add the salt, pepper, garlic powder, and mushroom broth powder.
- 5 Stir until well combined and the mixture can be shaped.
- 6 Take 1 tbsp of the mixture and roll it into a ball in your palm.
- 7 Fry in hot oil (170°C/340°F) until golden brown and floating.
- 8 Drain on paper towels.
- 9 Let cool, then arrange in a lunch box with the dipping sauce on the side.
💡 Tips
• Squeeze the tofu until it's really dry — this is the key to being able to shape the mixture.
• Don't add too much flour so the tofu's texture still comes through.
• You can add finely chopped shrimp for a flavor variation.
• Fry over medium heat — high heat will burn the outside while leaving the inside raw.
