Purple rain — an elegant purple drink made from black grapes, blackcurrant, and elderberry, packed with resveratrol and nature's strongest anthocyanins! The deep, rich purple color is a signal of exceptionally high polyphenol content. Black grapes contain resveratrol — the compound known as the secret to longevity among Mediterranean populations, proven to activate sirtuin genes that play a role in slowing cellular aging, protecting the heart, and improving insulin sensitivity. Blackcurrant has the highest vitamin C content among all berries — 3-4x higher than oranges — while also being rich in gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), which soothes joint inflammation. Elderberry, or sambucus, has been used for thousands of years as a natural antiviral, and modern research confirms its ability to inhibit influenza virus replication. All the purple-blue pigments in this juice work synergistically to protect the brain from neuron damage, boost blood flow to the brain, and sharpen memory — making it the ultimate brain food in drink form.

  • 200g seedless black grapes, washed thoroughly
  • 100g fresh or frozen blackcurrant
  • 50g fresh elderberry or 2 tbsp elderberry syrup
  • 1/2 fruit purple apple (Red Delicious)
  • 1 tbsp dark honey or manuka honey
  • 200ml coconut water
  • A few drops of food-grade lavender (optional, for aroma)
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon
  • Ice cubes
  • A few grapes and a lavender sprig for garnish

👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. 1 Wash the grapes, blackcurrant, and elderberry thoroughly
  2. 2 Put all the fruit into a blender along with the coconut water
  3. 3 Blend on high until all the fruit is smooth and the juice turns a deep purple
  4. 4 Strain through a fine cloth strainer or fine-mesh strainer to get a clean juice
  5. 5 Add the lemon juice, honey, and a few drops of food-grade lavender if using
  6. 6 Stir well
  7. 7 Taste — if it's too sour, add more honey; if it's too thick, add more coconut water
  8. 8 Pour into a wine glass or tall glass filled with ice cubes
  9. 9 Garnish with 2-3 whole grapes on the rim of the glass and a small lavender sprig
  10. 10 Serve cold

💡 Tips

• Frozen blackcurrant is just as effective as fresh — there's no significant loss of anthocyanins from freezing

• Large amounts of raw elderberry can cause nausea — use fully ripe elderberries or opt for elderberry syrup instead

• The resveratrol in black grapes is most concentrated in the skin and seeds — blending without straining out the solids maximizes its content
