Red beet berry heart juice — a dramatically deep red drink that's amazing for heart health and physical performance! Red beets, mixed berries, and pomegranate come together to form an unmatched antioxidant powerhouse. Red beets are rich in organic nitrates that the body converts into nitric oxide — a molecule that dilates blood vessels, lowers blood pressure, and boosts muscles' oxygen-use efficiency by up to 16%, making it a favorite natural supplement among athletes. Blueberries and raspberries are rich in anthocyanins — purple-red pigments that protect heart cells from oxidative stress and have been shown in studies to reduce the risk of heart attacks in women of reproductive age by up to 32%. Pomegranate contains punicalagin and punicic acid, unique compounds found only in pomegranate, which are powerfully anti-inflammatory and have been shown to help lower oxidized LDL cholesterol. Carrots add beta-carotene and vitamin K. This combination is best enjoyed 1-2 hours before exercise or as a post-workout recovery drink.

  • 1 whole medium red beet, peeled and cut
  • 150g fresh or frozen mixed berries (blueberry, raspberry, strawberry)
  • 1/2 whole pomegranate, seeds removed
  • 2 whole medium carrots
  • 1/2 whole lemon, juiced
  • 1 tsp honey
  • 200 ml cold water
  • Ice cubes
  • Mint leaves for garnish

👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. 1 Peel the red beet and carrots, then dice them for easier processing
  2. 2 If using a juicer: feed in the beet, carrots, and berries alternately for a pure juice result
  3. 3 If using a blender: add all ingredients along with the water, then blend on high until smooth
  4. 4 Strain through a fine cloth strainer to get a clean juice free of pulp
  5. 5 Squeeze in the lemon juice, add the honey, and stir well
  6. 6 Special note for beets: wash your hands right after handling them, as their red pigment stains very strongly
  7. 7 Pour into a glass filled with ice cubes
  8. 8 Garnish with a few pomegranate seeds and mint leaves
  9. 9 Serve immediately, or store in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours in an airtight bottle

💡 Tips

• Raw beets have higher nitrate levels than cooked ones — always use fresh beets for the best cardiovascular benefits

• Don't be alarmed if your urine or stool turns pink after drinking beet juice — this is normal and is called beeturia

• If you're not used to beet juice, start with a small portion (half the recipe), since its earthy flavor can be quite strong
